Singapore-The World's Largest Shopping Mall

I'll admit it-I did not have high expectations for Singapore.  From what everyone had told me, it's small, hot and boring.  However, after spending a few days in hot, sticky, buggy Borneo, I was so happy to be back in modern civilization.

Singapore isn't really that exciting.  On most corners you will be surrounded by shopping malls.  Everywhere you look.  Everywhere.  It did come in handy for me though, since I was suffering from my 2nd bout of food poisoning (from an open air food court that was literally in the middle of nowhere in Borneo).  I saw more of the mall bathrooms than I did of the city.  I also heard great things about Singapore's food stalls, but my illness prevented me from actually getting to try anything.

One thing I really enjoyed in Singapore was going to the top of the Marina Bay Sands, the swanky hotel that looks like a giant ship is straddling the building.  Rooms start at $400 a night, but for $20 you could walk around the top floor and look at people who actually have money to stay there.

Another thing I liked about Singapore were the markets.  I got a funky watch for about $5.  The alarm clock is sketchy though, it's screwed me over enough times that I won't use it anymore.

Wednesday night ladies got a discount.  Sadly, I wasn't there on a Wednesday.

I should have bought this shirt.  Singapore girls know what's up.

This gorgeous mosque was down the street from my hostel.

Singapore also excited me because it was the first place I had been in about 5 months that had anything even remotely resembling modern architecture.  Korea, Philippine islands, and Borneo are not really on the cutting edge of modern design.

A shopping mall.  I don't know how to rotate the picture, sorry!

Another picture I can't rotate!

All in all, I enjoyed my few days in Singapore and was happy to have food poisoning in the country that is dubbed 'The World's Largest Shopping Mall'.  The bathrooms were all very nice.
