What I'm Looking Forward To

I am a big fan of the blog The Art of Non-Conformity, which is written by a guy who is truly living the dream.  He travels, he writes, and he hangs out with all of the other cool guys who do the same things.  Anyway, his latest blog post asked what are we (the readers) looking forward to in the short-term, medium-term, and long-term.

In the short-term, I'm looking forward to my travels which will begin September 10.  Even though my financial situation isn't good right now (I got laid off with 4 weeks to go and am now scrambling to find temp work), it's happening.  Great Ocean Road, Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef, Thailand, seeing Angkor Wat in Cambodia finally (my only regret from last year was leaving Asia without seeing it), eating breakfast in the Burj al-Arab in Dubai, walking around ancient medinas in Morocco, riding bikes past tulips and windmills (I hope there will be tulips anyway) in Amsterdam, and then what I am looking forward to the MOST OF ALL is seeing my family again in mid-October!!!!

In the medium-term I'm looking forward to settling into a semi-normal life.  I don't plan to live abroad again anytime soon, but of course that doesn't mean my travels are over.  Oh no.  My plan is to find a job, live with the familia and save up some money so I can participate in the Great White Shark Research and Conservation Project in South Africa next June.  That's the plan.

In the long-term, I'm looking forward to going to grad school,  hopefully in the fall of 2012, and finally getting onto the path I feel I need to be on.  Plus, when I am able to work for the school system, my travel time will be ridiculous :)

There's a lot to look forward to in life.  Even when things seem bad (which to be honest, they do look bad to me right now due to losing my job).  But you can get through it, and there will be light on the other side.  What are you looking forward to??

  1. Oooh great plans - you can keep the sharks though. I'm all for shark conservation but a) I can't swim well and b) they terrify me.

Morocco, Amsterdam, Angkor Wat, breakfast at the Burj - it all sounds faaaaaaaabulous! Update here more when you're travelling, too - I love (enviously) reading about your travel tales! ^.^ ㅋㅋ

  4. I find that I now have problems adjusting to normal life and just want to live abroad again.

I am currently trying to figure out a way to get paid in South America. It's not nearly as easy as it may sound.

  5. It's definitely difficult to live a normal life after being abroad. When I got home from Korea, I was freaking out for a while, but then after a few months I got settled and was dreading the move to Australia!

  6. I'm looking forward to never having to rely on living abroad as a source of income again. If I'm going to live overseas again, it'll be because I WANT to, not because I feel I NEED to.
